To tell you the truth the whole legal side of the blogging world scares the pants off of me. I, of course, want to do things correctly and make efforts to follow all ethical and copyright rules. But, there is just so much out there. Like, did you know that it is wrong to use the bold option too often in a post? I had no clue and I've hit the big bold symbol more than my fair share.
So, over the next few weeks (possibly months) I am going to try to understand all the legal jargon, share it with you, and apply it to my blogs. I hope that the information will be useful to you as well. And, if you don't have a blog, it might be interesting to finally understand why bloggers do certain things.
In the meantime, here are a few posts that you might find interesting on the topic:
- "Disclosure now required on Blogs, Twitter, and other social networking sites" from Lorelle on Wordpress
- Blog Herald's "5 Legal Guides Everyone Blogger Should Read"
- This includes a link to a wonderful quick read from OSM: "A Quick & Dirty Legal Guide for Bloggers"
- It also includes another source that I found independently and wanted to share with you: The Electronic Frontier Foundation's "Legal Guide for Bloggers"
- Blog Herald's "The Legal Risks of Blogging"
- Cyber Journalist created a "Blogger's Code of Ethics" based off of the Society of Professional Journalist's Code of Ethics (I am a former Journalist and really hold the SPJ's code of ethics to my heart. I love this rendition.)
What legal questions about blogging do you have? Maybe I can find an answer!
